What Is Fat Burn X?
Fat Burn X is a weight loss aid intended for a bodybuilding cutting cycle. The advertising and labeling are vague on the exact mechanisms of action, but the product contains a number of ingredients commonly found in other fat burning and cutting products for appetite suppression, energy and the mobilization of stored body fat. The labeling claims that it is formulated for use by both men and women.
Fat Burn X is meant to be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise to help burn fat stores and improve muscle definition. As with all fat burning supplements, no results will be seen by simply popping a pill and then not exercising or eating right. Users will still need to get in exercise and restrict their calories to see weight loss and visible improvement of muscle aesthetics.
Fat Burn X comes in pill form for convenience. Two pills are taken per day, ideally in the morning. Each bottle comes with 60 pills, or roughly one month’s supply.
Fat Burn X is produced and sold by Tenveg Ltd. of the United Kingdom. The company does not have a prior history in the supplement market, and Fat Burn X appears to be their only product at this time. Their website also does not offer any information on where the product is manufactured or the manufacturing process.
Tenveg has an address and phone number in San Diego for United States customers. The company can also be contacted by email with questions about the product. Product returns also go to their San Diego address, and are discussed in further detail below.
How Fat Burn X Works?
Since the advertising makes only very vague claims and the label does not list specific ingredient amounts, we have to infer how the product works from the ingredients that are listed. But based on the label, it appears to work as most general-purpose fat burning pills do. It lowers appetite and helps to curb food cravings while also providing a feeling of energy and elevating the metabolism to more effectively burn fat and keep muscle tissue from being broken down as fuel.
Fat burners like Fat Burn X help to remove stored body fat through two main processes – thermogenesis and lipolysis. Thermogenesis is a state in which the body is using more calories to perform all of its functions, essentially multiplying the effect of any exercise you do. Lipolysis is the state in which the body prioritizes the use of stored body fat for energy over other possible energy sources, such as glycogen stores.
Exercise when using a product like this is still key, because lipolysis doesn’t burn the stored fat automatically. It just makes it available to be burned, which is where the exercise comes in. If you use a supplement to induce lipolysis and then just sit around and do nothing, all of that stored fat will go right back to where it came from in time.
Thermogenic ingredients in Fat Burn X include Caffeine, Green Tea Extract and Citrus Aurantium. Citrus Aurantium also functions as a lipolytic agent along with Grapefruit Extract, Apple Cider Vinegar and Juniper Berry. Psyllium Husk suppresses appetite along with Garcinia Cambogia, which also blocks carbohydrates from being turned into stored fat.
Ingredients in Fat Burn X
Caffeine is standard in nearly all cutting supplements as it’s one of the cleanest, safest energy stimulants. Unfortunately, since the dosage isn’t listed on the label, we can’t say how potent it is here. A cup of coffee is roughly 90mg of caffeine, and fat burning products often contain from 200 to 300mg per serving, so it’s likely in that range somewhere.
Caffeine also has a mild thermogenic effect. This is where the metabolism stays in an elevated state for an extended period so that more calories are burned with exercise. Caffeine doesn’t do much of this on its own, but can have a multiplying effect when paired with certain other ingredients such as Green Tea Extract and Citrus Aurantium.
Since the exact dose of caffeine in this product is unknown along with the dosage of other potent stimulants such as Citrus Aurantium, product users may want to play it safe and not take in any additional caffeine while using the product. An excess of stimulants can cause jitters and feelings of nausea, and even more serious problems if the dosage is too high. It might seem hard to give up a regular morning cup of coffee or tea, but Fat Burn X is designed to be taken shortly after waking up and the stimulant blend should definitely be more than enough to serve as a replacement.
Certain bioactive polyphenols in citrus fruits, including grapefruit, were shown to reduce fat mass in obese participants in a 2008 study. The catch is that participants were given a proprietary blend called Sinetrol that also contained polyphenols from different types of oranges. Grapefruit Extract hasn’t been tested in isolation for fat loss yet, but several studies that had participants consume whole grapefruit did show weight loss in overweight adults.
Grapefruit diets have been popular since the 1930s, but science is only beginning to catch up and find explanations for why so many people have reported anecdotal success in dropping body fat with them. These diets have often called for a calorie-free caffeine source once a day as a mandatory part of them, such as coffee or black tea. So it is possible that caffeine has a synergistic effect with grapefruit polyphenols that is somehow causing stored body fat to be oxidized.
Studies in which grapefruit supported weight loss used only a relatively small amount, about half of one fruit taken with meals for a period of a few weeks. So the lack of dosage information here may not be such an issue, as it may not take a large dose of concentrated grapefruit extract to stimulate fat loss. Studies have not yet made clear whether there is a difference between taking an extract or juice and taking in the actual fruit, however.
Green Tea Extract
Green tea contains four different types of molecules called “catechins” that have a wide variety of benefits, but the one that’s most relevant to weight loss is EGCG. EGCG has shown very promising effects in reducing fat mass in a number of studies. But a dosage of 400 to 500mg each day was used in these studies, and it also showed the strongest effects when used by those who do not consume caffeine regularly.
Again, the lack of label information is a problem here, as we don’t know what the extract used here is standardized for. EGCG is a safe bet since it’s very popular and included in many fat burning pills, but the other major polyphenols also have antioxidant properties that may contribute to fat loss. The potent blend of antioxidants in Green Tea Extract are thought to specifically scavenge loose fat cells that have been mobilized for use as energy.
Whatever the case, it’s hard to go wrong with Green Tea Extract in any form. Most manufacturers that supply it standardize their extract for 90% polyphenols, with the equivalent of about five cups of tea per serving. So Fat Burn X is likely in that range, as it is likely using one of the standard extracts supplied by a third party manufacturer.
Citrus Aurantium is also commonly known as “bitter orange extract.” It contains the very potent stimulant synephrine. Synephrine acts as both a thermogenic and a fat oxidizer simultaneously, but caution must be taken in dosing due to its potency.
Citrus Aurantium has become popular as of late as a safer, more moderate alternative to ephedrine. Ephedrine was extremely popular as a fat burning ingredient a few years ago, but has become somewhat harder to find after the FDA linked it to some serious cardiovascular issues and restricted how it could be marketed in supplements. Citrus Aurantium functions in a manner similar to ephedrine, but has not been linked to any health issues at this time when taken orally.
In addition to inducing thermogenesis and lipolysis, Citrus Aurantium also helps to suppress the appetite. And, as mentioned previously, it works as a central nervous system stimulant to induce a feeling of energy similar to caffeine. Citrus Aurantium truly is the total package for fat burner ingredients and is definitely one of the superstar ingredients of this formula.
Garcinia Cambogia is a tropical fruit native to parts of Asia and Africa. It is commonly used in the kitchen, but made its breakthrough into fat burning formulas in 2012 when it was featured on the Dr. Oz show. A study published in the journal Physiology & Behavior in 2000 showed that the extract promoted weight loss in a group of mildly overweight women without changing their appetite.
The secret to Garcinia Cambogia’s function appears to be hydroxycitric acid or HCA. This is an enzyme that appears to work in the liver to prevent carbohydrates from ever being converted to stored fat. It also elevates serotonin levels, which in turn leads to improved mood and decreased desire for snacks and unhealthy foods.
Garcinia Cambogia is promoted by the product advertising as one of the most important ingredients in the formula, but it’s actually likely not as useful as Citrus Aurantium and the other extracts. It can be useful in blocking the absorption of excess carbs, but you still need to take in a significant amount of carbs daily even when on a weight loss program to meet your basic nutritional needs. Aside from that, it appears to only be functioning as a mood enhancer that compliments the stimulant content and was probably emphasized so much in the advertising just because it was featured on the Dr. Oz show.
Psyllium Husk is a common fiber supplement. Dietary fiber not only promotes good digestive health, it also helps to bring appetite down. Psyllium seed husks are commonly used in fat burning supplements to help users control their food cravings.
Aside from their fiber content, psyllium husks also control appetite by expanding once they are in the digestive system. They absorb moisture and form a gelatinous mass that helps to keep you feeling full. It is important to take them with plenty of water for them to function properly, however.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar was seen in a 2009 study to improve loss of fat mass in a dose-dependent manner. The effect still hasn’t been studied very thoroughly, but researchers theorize that enzymes that oxidize fat called AMPK played a role. Benefits to blood glucose and lipid levels were also seen in studies conducted on mice.
Apple Cider Vinegar is basically nothing more than fermented apple juice. It is commonly found in many salad dressings and is very acidic. Getting it in pill form is the superior way to take it as it has a disagreeable taste on its own, but as with Psyllium Husks it is important to take pills that contain it with plenty of water as they can be damaging if they get caught in the throat for an extended period.
Juniper Berry actually takes the form of a small pine-like cone, and has long been used in traditional Korean medicine to treat a wide variety of digestive ailments. Strangely enough, it is also a very effective insect repellent. But its use in fat burning formulas is based on a 2008 study published in the Biological & Pharmaceutical Bulletin, in which it limited weight gain when paired with a high-fat diet.
Science is still not clear on exactly how juniper berry affects stored fat mass in the body. They are known to be high in antioxidants, so they may have a similar “scavenging” effect to that of Green Tea Extract. It is also a natural diuretic, so it may be here simply to cut water weight and give users an immediate appearance of having better body definition and tone.
There are a few important health points of note with supplements containing Juniper Berry. Any water weight lost due to a diuretic is only temporary and will need to be replenished within a day or two. There have also been a few instances of kidney problems developing in those who used Juniper Berry supplements for more than six weeks at a time.
While it would be nice to know the exact dose of each included item, Fat Burn X at least uses a lineup of ingredients that have scientific studies backing them. Citrus Aurantium is a particularly potent fat burner, especially when paired with caffeine. And adding Green Tea Extract and Grapefruit Extract to the mix ensures that the product should have at least some significant thermogenic and lipolytic effect regardless of the exact dosing.
Psyllium husk also definitely helps to control appetite. Any amount of added dietary fiber is beneficial! Both Grapefruit Extract and Apple Cider Vinegar are also relatively rarely used in fat burning products and show a lot of potential for elevating the metabolism.
Fat Burn X does not have any industry certifications at this time.
Fat Burn X does not offer any user testimonials at their website. Online reviews are mixed, but customers that were happy with the product reported that they saw a steady slimming effect when used over a period of at least a few weeks. Some users reported dropping multiple pounds per week, usually when paired with a restricted calorie diet and regular exercise.
The manufacturers of Fat Burn X guarantee that it can be returned within 15 days of receiving it for a refund.
